Classroom Protest

Project type

Performance

Date

July 2018

Location

Portland Maine

This is the protest that sparked my exploration of dyslexia and transformed it into an artistic form. This occurred during my first semester at the Maine College of Art MFA program. This piece stems from a physical protest I staged during my first semester in the MFA program at the Maine College of Art. It was a direct response to the challenges I’ve faced as a dyslexic person, particularly within academic and institutional settings. The protest served as a personal and public declaration of frustration, visibility, and resistance. It became a turning point in my artistic journey—transforming dyslexia from a private struggle into a central theme in my creative work. From this moment on, I began exploring language through phonetic spelling, altered text, and viewer interaction, using my art as a platform to question legibility, accessibility, and the norms of written communication.
